New plans for a £24 Million flyover at Laurencekirk are due to be unveiled later this month.
Transport Scotland will make their preferred plans for the long-awaited flyover public.
Road designers Amey along with Transport Scotland will host consultation events on the preferred proposal at Laurencekirk’s Dickson Memorial Hall in July and August.
The selection of the preferred plans comes after a consultation last October where three potential options for the Laurencekirk Junction Improvement scheme were considered by the public.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson said:
“Having put a number of options for the planned improvements at Laurencekirk on display last year and considered the feedback following the public exhibition, we are now able to let the public see and comment on the preferred option that has been identified for this much-needed upgrade.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to attend the exhibitions in July or August or view the material online and give us their views.
“All comments received will be considered as we look to publish draft Orders for the scheme next year.”
Campaigners have been calling for a a new flyover for seven years.
Mairi Gougeon, MSP for Angus North & Mearns, said: “This is very significant stage of the Laurencekirk development.
“It underlines that progress IS being made and I hope this will reassure the public of the Scottish Government’s commitment towards this project.
“But it’s absolutely crucial that as many people who use the junction or live in the surrounding areas come along and have their say.
“Their voice really matters. We have waited a long time to get to this stage and a lot of money is being invested in the project so it’s important we find a solution that works.”
Transport Scotland will unveil their plans for a preferred option at their meeting at Dickson Memorial Hall in Laurencekirk in their first public event on Friday 20th July, with a second consultation day on Friday 24th August.
Both events will be open 12 noon to 7pm and the plans will be available here.
