The Headteacher of Dunnottar Primary School has launched an online fundraiser to raise cash for a new playground. The school is aiming to raise £10,000 to fund a complete re-design.
Currently, there is only one piece of play apparatus surrounded by patchy concrete. Headteacher Lisa Williams has said she wants to see a new playground that “celebrates the local” with plans to incorporate elements of Stonehaven’s landscape into the design; the harbour, sea and woodlands are expected to play a part in the new playground.
Areas have already been zoned for a woodland area with ferns, bird-boxes and a tipi, a friendship bench, and also a quiet, meditative coastal area with a boat, sensory planting and benches.
The existing play equipment will also be repaired, and a new shelter will be constructed.
The playground revamp comes at a time when the school looks to increase the number of outdoor learning hours for each pupil; the school will be applying for separate money to purchase new outdoor maths and science equipment.
It is hoped that the redesign will help transform the school playground into a community hub that can be used outwith school time.
