Aberdeenshire Council has now confirmed that Stonehaven Open Air Pool will open as planned in the 26th of May.
Questions had been raised whether the council could prepare the pool in time for the usual deadline of the last weekend in May. Essential repairs had been delayed due to a man being injured whilst conducting maintenance to the pool.
John Harding, Head of Lifelong Learning and Leisure said: “We have been working hard to ensure that everything possible is being done to make sure that Stonehaven Open Air Pool opens as originally scheduled. Following an update last week, we are confident that the pool will open on Saturday, May 26 as planned.”
Stonehaven Councillor Wendy Agnew said: “I look forward to the pool opening on time, it is always an eagerly awaited date for the Stonehaven people and also people outwith Stonehaven.”
Aberdeenshire Council maintains the pool and is responsible for safety in and around the building. Recent reports have suggested that it was the HSE which had caused delays, meaning that essential maintenance to the pool mechanisms could not be carried out leading to the knock-on effect of delaying the Friends of the Pool from completing their renovation works.
